Overview Students are studying colonies and to demonstrate their knowledge will make advertisements to encourage people during this time period to "Come to My Colony". Working in groups of 2-3 with 5 class periods to work, student will research their colony and design their advertisements for people in that time period in England. Each advertisement will need to include the reason for founding the colony (jobs, political situations, religious freedom, etc.), geography/leaders, economy (specifically how colonists will make money) and government. Students are encouraged to use their persuasive writings skills. Mr. Chin, our Technology Integration specialist, will share his knowledge and expertise with the students. Students will use the Design Cycle (shown below) as well as the Design Principles when creating and publishing their advertisement posters.
Design Principles
Target audience: who are you designing for?
Action: what do you want the reader to do and what are the steps to get there?
Verbiage: what words will convey the tone/feeling of the message?
Elements: how do the font and colors you use help you convey your message?
Graphics/drawings vs photos? Which one fits best with your message? If it is for print you’ll want to make sure images that are not yours are copyright-free and have a DPI of at least 300.
What restrictions do you have? Are you designing for a certain size paper or screen? Is there a certain amount of space, words, pictures that you can use?
